Attacking Chess in the 21st Century is now avalilable!
The book consists of 36 attacking games from the 21st Century divided into four chapters.
Mastering attacking play in chess is a dream that we all long to achieve, but of course the art of attack does not arise by itself.
Constructing positions which favour the attack is the most difficult task.
In this book we shall see games with brilliant finishes, but we shall also draw attention to the different phases through which the struggle passes, in order make such finishes possible.
Attention has been paid not only to what happens on the board but also, wherever possible, to the influence of the analysis engines not only on a player’s preparation for the game, something that has become more important in these early years of the new century, but also on the practical context of the game.
The games are prefaced by brief biographical information and a short description of the events of the game.

Hoy 25 de junio es el cumpleaños del excampeón mundial Vladimir Borisovich Kramnik (Tuapse, Rusia, 1975).
Su estilo de juego era muy agradable, pasó por varias fases, desde una predilección por los finales y el juego posicional pasó a jugar de forma más activa, con mayor cantidad de sacrificios, si bien posicionales por lo general.
Está oficialmente retirado desde 2099, pero juega torneos de semirrápidas con cierta frecuencia. En mi nota 654 en ABC Color de Asunción, Paraguay, publicada el 26 de abril de 2023 hablé un poco de él.
En concreto sobre la interesante entrevista que concedió Vladimir Kramnik hace pocos meses.
Recientemente, en Berlín, el excampeón del mundo ruso Vladimir Borisovich Kramnik (Tuapseé, URSS, 25 de junio de 1975) concedió una entrevista de 35 minutos, a la plataforma Worldchess, perteneciente a la FIDE.
Kramnik, retirado del ajedrez clásico desde 2019, respondió a preguntas sobre las causas de su retiro, su trabajo con jóvenes con gran potencial, sus nuevos proyectos, Magnus Carlsen, etc., veamos algunas de sus opiniones.
Kramnik tiene muy buenos recuerdos de Alemania, en especial de Berlín, jugó por un club de Berlín durante cuatro años; el lugar donde más le gusta jugar es en Alemania, recalcó que no lo decía para agradar a los organizadores.
Lo demuestra en el tablero, venció 10 veces en el torneo de Dortmund, se lo llamó “Mr. Dortmund”, además del Abierto de 1992, ganar este torneo fue crucial para su carrera.
Sobre su retiro del ajedrez profesional
Kramnik dijo que no extrañaba jugar al ajedrez clásico, aunque sea la forma de ajedrez que prefiere, es por la cantidad de esfuerzo que demanda, hay que estar concentrado exclusivamente en el ajedrez, no solo jugando, a veces hasta 7 horas, sino también en la preparación que requiere, y, sus 47 años hacen que sea más complicado que antes.
Ya años antes de pensar en retirarse tuvo claro que jugaría mientras estuviese motivado, disfrutaba de su vida de ajedrecista profesional, pero “llega un momento en que ya no disfrutas tanto”; ahora todavía le gusta jugar, a ritmo blitz, rapid, y otras variaciones …»

La partida elegida está comentada más ampliamente en mi libros sobre partidas de ataque del siglo XXI.
Un 3 de junio como hoy, de 1974, falleció el maestro tártaro Rashid Gibiatovich Nezhmetdinov, «Super Nezh» a los 61 años.
Quizás, en gran parte por no competir en Occidente, no sea tan conocido como su juego merece, aunque en los últimos años se publicaron varios libros sobre sus partidas.
Fue uno de los grandes jugadores de iniciativa y de ataque del siglo XX.
Nada menos que Mikhail Tal dijo: “Sus partidas revelan la belleza del ajedrez y te hacen amar el ajedrez”.
Tal corroboró que Nezhmetdinov pertenece a la clase de gente que, gracias a la hermosura de su arte, es eterna.
“Super Nezh”, logró triunfos brillantes contra varios de los mejores de mundo, entre ellos Mikhail Tal, Boris Spassky, Efim Geller, Lev Polugaevsky y David Bronstein.
Tuvo una infancia difícil y la II Guerra Mundial truncó su desarrollo ajedrecístico, pero superó las dificultades una y otra vez.
Era también un muy buen jugador de damas, y fue campeón ruso en ambos juegos, de ajedrez nada menos que cinco veces.
La escuela de ajedrez de Kazán, capital de la República de Tartaristán, Rusia, lleva su nombre.
